Netball

Netball is a captivating and dynamic team sport that originated in England in the 1890s, derived from basketball. Played with two teams of seven players each, the objective is to score goals by throwing the ball through a high ring located at each end of the court.

The aim of the game is to outscore the opposing team by shooting the ball through the goal ring. The goalposts are positioned in the shooting circle at both ends of the court, with each team defending one circle and attacking the other.

Each team consists of seven players, each wearing a “bib” that indicates their playing position. There are two positions for attacking shooting, two for defense, and the remaining positions are restricted to two-thirds of the court.

Games are divided into quarters lasting 15 minutes each. At the start of each quarter and after a goal is scored, play restarts from the center of the court with a ‘center pass.’ The possession of the ball for the center pass alternates between the teams, regardless of which team scored the last goal.

Netball offers various exciting variations, including indoor netball, fast 5, beach netball, walking netball, and netball for those with disabilities, such as deaf netball and wheelchair netball. This inclusive sport welcomes both women and men to participate and enjoy the game.
